“Every dog deserves a gravestone.”

Regular burial rituals in many cultures include dedicating a gravestone in honor of the characterlost. As a result, humans often have the same understanding of their lost pets. As evidenced by a recent discovery in a nearby park, this doesn’t seem to have changed much in the last 80 years.
Zach Medlin and his dog, Serena, were walking through Kiroli Park in West Monroe, Louisiana, when he noticed something barely concealed. Medlin found that it used to be an etched stone marker after closer examination. Medlin told The Dodo that this piqued his curiosity.
“The inscription was shielded by pine straw. So I had to walk through the pine straw to see what the grave marker had to say.”
He discovered the inscription “Buddie, 1928 – 1942” when he fully uncovered the stone. There used to be a gravestone for a specific boy who died eighty years ago that read, “Born a puppy, Died a gentleman.” Medlin stopped to marvel about Buddie and the humans who cherished and gave him a desirable burial. He felt touched.
“It warms my heart to learn that Buddie helped his owners get through the Great Depression. Both puppies are entitled to a gravestone.”
Of course, it’s all a beautiful reminder of the strong bond that exists between humans and their pets, regardless of how brief their time together is. Buddie was there for thirteen years, and he clearly enjoyed a complete life.
Medlin shared a picture of Buddie’s resting location to the famous Facebook crew“Dogspotting,” and of direction it resonated with many. The submit now has over 58,000 likes and 1,300 shares.
