We prefer to think of ourselves as being on the other side of the animal kingdom. Animals, too, are capable of immense compassion.
Hazel, a 3-year-old Yorkie-Chihuahua-poodle mix who lives in Abilene, Texas with her mother, Monica Burks, recently demonstrated this. Monica has kept her since she was a few weeks old, and she said she has always been a sweet puppy. Hazel’s mother allowed her out for a toilet break one rainy day. Monica declined to accompany her due to the weather. Hazel seldom went far, especially when it was raining.
When Monica checked the door, however, Hazel was not there, which was not only perplexing but also alarming. Monica made the decision to go look for Hazel. But as she was about to walk out of the door, she saw Hazel trotting back up to the house in the rain. But that’s not all. As she got closer, she noticed that Hazel had a tiny kitten in tow.
Hazel must have noticed or scented the abandoned kitten while on her pee break and determined that she needed to be rescued.
“I’m sure there’s such a thing as pure love. Monica remarked, “I witnessed Hazel’s maternal instincts come to light.”
Hazel persuaded the kitty to accompany her. And whenever she fell behind, Hazel would come to a halt and encourage her to keep going until they arrived at their destination. Monica took them both inside and examined the kitten before rewarding Hazel with a gift for her generosity.
And the best part of the story? Monica’s brother, Michael, decided to adopt the rescued kitten who they named Sheba! If you liked this story, please leave a like and share!
