When canine rescuer Valia Orfanidou was traveling with her dogs in her old neighborhood, around 100 miles outside of Athens, she took them for a walk by the sea every evening. When they were out one evening, a homeless dog approached her, wagging her tail. “She had seen us from afar, and since she was looking for organization, she joined the four of us and tried to blend in,” Valia explained.
On YouTube, the experienced rescuer (The Vagrant Pet) wrote, “I froze.” “When you live in Greece as a creature darling, you basically acquire accustomed to desolate homeless canines meandering around all over the place, and you decide to defend the ones that can’t make it in the city: the debilitated, skinny or injured ones, the infants, and the pregnant females.”
“There are most likely millions of lost dogs in Greece, and given how the attitude here isn’t changing anytime soon, there will be millions more to come before long,” Valia added. Valia volunteers in Greece for several salvage organizations and safe shelters. [B]eing holiday in the field isn’t simple – you either need to deliberately ignore or return home with twelve of salvage canines.”
Blue (as Valia dubbed her) was not, however, in a frantic state. The dog was about 7 months old and healthy, so she shouldn’t be a problem. Whatever the case, something about the friendly canine drew Valia’s attention. She could feel the canine’s agitation in her soul. “She was desperate for human order and a family where she could feel at home,” she said.
“She spent a mid year pursuing individuals and running behind vehicles of anybody she met on that sea shore swaying her tail and asking for something,” Valia further clarified.
Valia couldn’t sleep for two days, trying to come up with a strategy to get Blue away from the beach. Valia made a game-changing decision to save Blue at that point. It just so happens that her decision would prove to be a fantastic one, as the friendly wanderer with the delicate soul is on his way to becoming a therapeutic canine in Holland!
“Perhaps she wasn’t begging aid, perhaps she was offering it, to those who had no idea what a fortune they were continually avoiding,” Valia muses as she recalls Blue and how she met her at the beach.
