After sprinting into a blazing shelter, a homeless person was regarded as a “guardian angel.”
Keith Walker put his life on the line to save the 6 dogs and 10 cats who were discovered following a kitchen fire at the Atlanta animal shelter. On December 18, the 53-year-old, who has been homeless since he was 13, rushed to the WUnderdogs shelter to save the animals.
“I’m not going to lie, I was quite nervous.” With all that smoke, he was terrified to enter. “However, God sent me there to save these animals,” Keith explained to CNN.
“You can love anyone in the world if you love a dog.” “I knew I had to help all these other dogs since my dog is my best friend and I wouldn’t be here without him.”
The fire rendered the WUnderdogs unusable, said to shelter founder Gracie Hamlin. Keith, she claimed, seemed unfazed when he rescued the animals.
“Even the firefighters were apprehensive about dealing with the dogs. They phoned Animal Control, but Keith was already inside, removing the cats and dogs until everyone was safe, Gracie explained.
Gracie already knew Keith, whom she refers to as her “guardian angel,” because she lets him have his own pit bull named Bravo every night at the shelter.
When Keith witnessed the fire, he was on his way to pick up Bravo and take him for a walk.
`He is my hero`
Gracie expressed her gratitude by saying, “I can’t thank you enough for protecting my animals.” “I can’t believe it because I’ve been around a fire before and know how quickly they can ignite.” He is a hero to me.
Fortunately, the shelter was only a week away from relocating the animals to a new location.
Gracie told CNN, “He is my guardian angel.”
