When Jennifer and Steve Hetterscheidt acquired a 14-year-old Golden Retriever, they wanted to provide her a loving home where she could live out the rest of her days. But they had no idea that their new canine was going to be quite the adventure! August, or “Augie,” is a 20-year-old woman who recently celebrated her birthday.
“They believed most people wouldn’t want such an ancient golden,” Golden Hearts Golden Retriever Rescue wrote on their website, “but they had no concept of the forthcoming trip they would embark on with Augie.” “They’ve taken her on RV excursions all over the nation, she has multiple canine and feline siblings, and she gets to swim in the pool and play catch.”
Augie is believed to be the oldest living Golden Retriever with the average lifespan of the breed being 10-12 years.
And Mom says her dog is “surprisingly healthy” despite her old age.
Augie’s legs are a little unsteady when she first stands up, but she enjoys walking around the yard. Here’s wishing adorable Augie many many joyful and healthy birthdays!
