Retirement communities aren’t just for humans, at least not in Gaithersburg, Maryland. At House with a Heart Senior Pet Sanctuary, a retirement home for older canines, nearly two dozen dogs are enjoying their golden years.
The canines spend the remainder of their days at Sher Polvinale’s home, where they are lovingly cared for by her team of volunteers. Senior pets come to her from rescues or people who can no longer care for them. The dogs have a slim probability of getting adopted due to their age and medical issues.
Sher looks for the dogs’ every need, from cleaning and feeding them to administering meds and visiting the veterinarian. And the dogs are never alone when it comes to saying their goodbyes.
Sher has a lot on her plate, as you can see in the video below, but every dog gets the love and attention they need in their golden years.
