New Law Allows Pets To Be Buried Alongside Their Humans At Cemeteries

People who wanted to be buried with their pets had few options in the past. If they wanted to be buried in a pet cemetery, that was basically their only option!
But, if humans can be buried in pet cemeteries, why couldn’t pets be buried in human cemeteries?
When it comes to pets and where they can be buried, New York is modifying the regulations. They approved a law that permits people to be buried in a human cemetery with their pets if they so desire. The law does not apply only to dogs and cats. It allows a variety of animals to be buried with their owners.

Many pet owners appreciate the decision, as their pets are considered members of their family. Of course, there are several exceptions to the legislation. Religious cemeteries are exempt from the new rule, and individual cemetery can continue to refuse to bury dogs if they so desire.

Every year, at least five people opt to be buried alongside their pets in a pet cemetery rather than in a human cemetery, according to a Westchester County pet cemetery. It’s a means for people to stay in touch with their loved ones after they’ve passed away.
Pet owners in New York can now finally rest in peace next to the living creatures who brought them so much joy, companionship, and comfort throughout their stay on this planet. After all, it’s perplexing that people can be buried in pet cemeteries but not the other way around.
Family is sometimes defined by who we select rather than who we are related to through blood, and our dogs are no exception. Pets are members of the family. Why make such a distinct separation between what constitutes as family?

Some folks who want to be buried with their pets have no choice but to sneak them into the cemetery. Friends or family members who are requested to do this after the pet owner has passed away may be in danger.
But, at least in New York, there’s no longer any need to slink around in a cemetery doing secret graves for loved ones. If you choose to, you and your pet can be together indefinitely.
Again, each cemetery must agree to allow you to bury your pet – they have the authority to refuse. It is, however, a significant step forward for people who have family pets.
