After 5 years in a shelter, a dog will soon become the face of a new billboard campaign to find a forever home
|An animal shelter in Kansas City, Kansas did everything they could to find a home for Merrick, a lovely dog. But nothing has worked for some reason. They tried the standard social media posts, picture sessions, and videos but were at a loss for what to do next. Despite his charming personality, Merrick has been a resident of the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City for nearly five years.
Nobody knows why some wonderful dogs languish undetected and unloved in shelters, but the longer they are there, the more difficult it is to find them loving homes. Merrick is one of those unique dogs.
“Merrick has spent 1,675 days with us.” But I’m not giving up on him, and neither should anyone else,” said Kate Fields, President and CEO of the Humane Society.
Merrick is not completely alone at the refuge. He has 15 individuals who come to see him and play with him every day, but they can’t take the place of a family. “They love him and spoil him,” the shelter says, “but he needs that family environment, that individual affection, that connection.” That’s not going to happen here.”
The shelter came up with the idea of putting up a billboard with Merrick’s picture on it in an attempt to find him a home before the holidays. In the coming weeks, the billboard will be installed someplace in Kansas City.
Scott Poore, owner of Mission Driven and an animal lover, is optimistic that Merrick will find his permanent home.
If you have it in your heart to give Merrick a home, you don’t have to wait for the billboard and can contact the shelter directly.
