Aragon is a dog who knows a thing or two about being rescued, as he was formerly a stray. So it’s no surprise that he can tell when an animal requires assistance. He recently discovered a brood of abandoned kittens while out for a walk with his human! “Abandoned kitten litters are so widespread in Greece that every time we come across one, our first instinct is ‘oh no, not again,'” says Valia of the Orphan Pet, a SCARS rescuer. SCARS has rescued more than 25 kittens in less than a month, all of whom were abandoned in the same manner. Aragon is a dog who was given up for adoption. His mother is a SCARS volunteer who lives near the Immitos mountain. She sees empty cardboard boxes on the mountain almost every day (often with blankets and toys still inside), but no animals.”
“Kittens, puppies, rabbits, and even birds (no joke!) become the food of a hungry fox (the most prevalent predator on the slopes surrounding Athens) within a few hours of being abandoned,” Valia writes. “The kitties got lucky this time. We were walking Aragon towards the mountain, intending to film the large number of animals abandoned there, when Aragon began pulling us toward them — he was the saviour, and he has been a great foster parent since day one.”
