By chance, a dog completes a half marathon. Finishes 7th after being let out to potty

How could a dog “inadvertently” complete a half marathon? What a great question! It’s truly quite straightforward and uncomplicated. Also, it’s hilarious. Mostly amusing!
The distance covered in a half marathon is 13.1 miles. Something I’m not sure Ludivine, the two-and-a-half-year-old Bloodhound, was aware of prior to “competing.” Because Ludivine’s owner did not run or participate in the event, the “accident” portion comes into play. On Sunday, Ludivine was allowed to go to the bathroom and ended up at the start line of the Elkmont Trackless Train Half Marathon in Alabama. Ludivine took off like everyone else did at the start of the race! She was said to have come to a halt twice. Once to investigate a dead rabbit on the side of the road, and once to see a herd of cows.

Bloodhounds always follow their nose, so I’m not shocked.

Despite her misfortunes, she managed to finish in seventh place! She finished just a few minutes over 1.5 hours. April Hamlin, the owner of Ludivine, said:

“I did nothing but open the door, and she raced the race on her own.” My initial reaction was one of embarrassment and concern that she might have gotten in the way of the other racers. She’s laid-back and nice, so I’m surprised she ran the entire half marathon because she’s usually rather indolent.”

Jim Clemens, who finished fourth, said, “Every time I thought she’d dropped off to go home, I’d hear her racing back up to me, and she’d race past me up to the two leads.” She’d dash out to frolic across the streams and into yards for a time, sniffing around.”
