Shelter Dog Hugs Her Best Friend So Tight Hours Before Euthanasia And Saves Their Lives
|It’s incredible how a single snapshot can transform someone’s life, as it did for two shelter canines. Kala and Keira were forced to bunk together as sheltermates, and with nothing else to do, they quickly became inseparable.
Heart and soul, they were completely devoted to one another. Unfortunately, the two were staying in a kill-shelter, and their time was running out. That’s when everything began to change with a fast snap of the camera, and the two were given a second chance at life, writes boredpanda.
The two were at the Etowah County Humane Society, and they were about to be put down the next day when employees decided to take a photo and make a final appeal for their lives on their social media page.
Angels Among Us Pet Rescue was alerted to the two shelter puppies when the shelter informed them that they had regrettably reached their “deadline,” quite literally. It was their final day, and they were about to be put to sleep.
With time running out, the rescue center re-shared the viral photo with a text that reminded readers about their terrible journey from Kala’s perspective in an emotionally-driven bid to save the two shelter canines from death row.
As the post continues, the rescue center desperately begs for help.
Angels Among Us claims that it took exactly 2 hours and 6 minutes from the time their tale was uploaded to the time they were walking away from certain death. When a man spotted the picture on the rescue’s Facebook page, he quickly contacted and said he was on his way to pick them up.
Unfortunately, though, he could only foster the relieved shelter dogs until a forever home could be found, so their trials were getting easier, but they certainly weren’t over.
The two shelter pups finally met their furrever humans in October, three months after their image was uploaded on social media, and the match couldn’t have been more perfect.
Pam Cody and Wendy Newman aren’t just BFFs; they’re also housemates, which was ideal because now Kala and Keira would have their own parent while still being able to keep each other!
Cody and Newman talk about the events leading up to their adoption in an interview with People. They had spotted the ad for Kala and Kiera seeking permanent homes earlier in the summer, but they already had two dogs to care for.
Then, in a tragic yet beautiful turn of events, both of their dogs died within a few days of each other. When they found out that Kala and Kiera had yet to meet their future family, they resolved to make a difference for the shelter canines.
