One Kind Human Saved The Life Of An Abandoned Dog Whose Paws Were Frozen To The Ground

According to post.bark.co, Bindi, the dog found with her paws frozen to the ground in Prospect Park in Brooklyn, NY, was healthy enough to leave VERG Animal Hospital on Thursday, and her condition is improving.

Despite leaving VERG, Sean Casey Animal Rescued reported on Facebook that her kidney values are still high, and her bloodwork will be redone in three days. In addition, Bindi has begun treatment for a stomach ulcer. While Bindi still has a long road ahead of her, she is surrounded by love, medical care, and people who care about her well-being, and we are optimistic that she will flourish.

Jennifer Williams was walking her two dogs in Prospect Park in New York City on Friday morning when doggie parent duty called. Daisy, Jennifer’s other dog, slipped out of her harness as Jennifer was tidying up after her first dog. Daisy (left) dashed over to a hunched-over dark figure beside a tree, which Jennifer instantly identified as a dog that had been abandoned and chained to the tree. Jennifer explained to BarkPost:

“She didn’t cry or bark, and she blended in perfectly with the tree.” She couldn’t move because she was so cold, afraid, and tired.”

Jennifer, who was taken aback by what she was seeing, said she “didn’t believe it until [she] came closer.” Jennifer dashed over to the starving black Pit Bull/Labrador mix and unwound the chain from the tree’s branches and yanked it from the dog’s collar. The dog couldn’t lay down since the chain was too short.

The temperature was frigid, but Jennifer took off her coat and wrapped the dog in it in an attempt to keep the dog warm. The dog must have known she was safe, because she instantly relaxed in Jennifer’s arms.

Jennifer transported the dog back to her house, where she realized the dog’s paws were bleeding. Jennifer finally grasped why this small puppy couldn’t move when she discovered her. The paws of the dog had frozen to the ground.

Jennifer, who understands the power of social media, shared a photo of the dog on Facebook. After seeing the ad, Donna Sachs called Sean Casey of Sean Casey Animal Rescue. Sean was on his way to Jennifer’s house in no time to pick up the puppy and get her proper medical attention.

Despite being emaciated and abandoned in bitter cold, this adorable girl got more energetic as she warmed up, despite her bleeding paws. When Jennifer gave her water, she stood up and wagged her tail.

Sean Casey Jr., Sean’s son, was with his father when the dog was hauled up. It’s a good thing he was, too, because he was the one who named this girl. Sean Jr. named her “Bindi,” after his hero Steve Irwin’s daughter.

Bindi was treated at VERG Animal Hospital, a 24-hour emergency clinic in Brooklyn, New York. Bindi appears to have other associated health issues in addition to the effects of being exposed to severe temperatures. She’s anemic to the point of needing two blood transfusions. She also has cherry eye, and x-rays revealed that her stomach contains three bits of metal. On Saturday morning, doctors conducted an endoscopy to remove the pieces.

Jennifer pointed out that

“People should be aware that just because there are dog lovers everywhere, putting your dog in the park does not guarantee that [the dog] will be found and saved.”
If a family needs to surrender an animal, they should look for an animal shelter or work with a local rescue group to find a new home for the animal.
Sean told the New York television station NBC 4:

“Any dog can be affected by the cold…. In severe weather, no dog, animal, or person should be left outside.”

The Humane Society of the United States recommends contacting local law enforcement if you witness a dog left outside in extreme weather. Animals left outside in these conditions are at risk of hypothermia and frostbite. They, too, are in danger of losing their lives.
