Senior Dog Who Spent 14 Years In Shelter Gets To Sleep In New Bed For First Time

Stewart has wanted to find his forever family for more than a decade. The 14-year-old dog arrived at the shelter when he was approximately one year old, and he has lived there almost his entire life. Stewart needed a hero who could see that he was deserving of unreserved love. And possibly a soft surface on which to sleep at the end of a long day.

Stewart hit the jackpot when he began to worry about spending the rest of his life in a shelter after two unsuccessful adoptions and returns.

Stewart joined the animal shelter in 2008, but he isn’t the only one who has lived there for most of his life.

Emily Wozniak, a former employee of Strays, Inc., stated to The Dodo, “It really breaks my heart to know there are 14, 10, 8, 5 year old dogs out there, like Stuart.” I therefore shared his story on TikTok in the hope of finding him a home.

The collie mix, especially a woman who lived five hours away, paid a lot of attention to the video.

According to Natalie Snyder, Stewart’s mother and the founder of Repo’s Rescue, who spoke with The Dodo, “The first time I discovered Stewart was through that video showing his admissions documents.” Stuart has a lot of people who might be adopted, but I knew he would be a great addition to our family.

Snyder drove to see Stewart because he couldn’t resist. However, once Stewart arrived, his availability suddenly vanished due to the shelter’s belief that Stewart should remain there for the rest of his life. Despite this, she and the rest of the community advocated for Stuart’s adoption because she was aware that she needed him just as much as he needed her.

Snyder stated, “They called me a day later when I got home.” Stewart could be adopted, and I could bring him home.

Stewart’s life has been turned upside down at this point. There will be no more uncomfortably loud noises or snoozing on concrete.

Snyder stated, “He loves his orthopedic bed and exploring the backyard to watch birds.” Watching him change and live life in his own way is very exciting.

Stewart gained faith in the opportunity over time, allowing him to live a peaceful life for the rest of his life. Because he won’t have to worry about finding a new home again, Snyder takes pleasure in every moment she spends with her new partner.

Snyder stated, “Stuart made me believe in the goodness of people.” He demonstrated not only what I was capable of but also what he was capable of. Despite his brave past, it made me proud to see him get up every day and try new things. He is a wonderful dog.
